OFTEN COPIED, NEVER EQUALED:
THE ORIGINAL BIRKENSTOCK FOOTBED
The original BIRKENSTOCK footbed is the heart of all our models. While today it is synonymous with exceptional comfort, the word "footbed" was first used by BIRKENSTOCK in the 1930s to describe anatomically shaped inner soles with special support elements.
THE FOOTBED IN DETAIL
The design, which has been thought through down to the smallest detail and is based on the natural footprint of a foot in the sand, helps to ensure that the feet endure many hours in shoes as stress-free as possible. This supports health and promotes well-being.

1. Deep heel cup
The very deep molding in the heel area supports the foot tissue and holds the heel bone firmly in its natural position. This provides the foot with nearly as much support when it is in a sandal as when it is in a closed shoe.

2. Heel mould
Activates the calf muscles, stabilises the back of the foot and improves gait and coordination.

3. Interior and exterior longitudinal arch supports
The arch supports that run alongside the sides of the footbed surround the tarsal bones inside and out. This gives the foot the stability it needs when it takes a step.

4. Transverse arch support
The support that runs through the middle of the footbed stabilizes the metatarsal bone. In this way, the transverse arch support helps ensure that the foot has a naturally straight and solid stance.

5. Toe grip
There are raised indentations at the front of the footbed near the toes. Thanks to the toe grip the toes remain loose and spread out in their natural position. The indentations also support the natural rolling motion of the toes.

6. Footbed edge
The footbed is drawn up especially high at the front. As a result, the high footbed edge protects the toes during the rolling motion of the foot.

The heart of all models is the original BIRKENSTOCK footbed. The construction, which has been thought out to the smallest detail and makes it feel like you're standing in sand, helps your feet feel as comfortable as possible for hours on end. This supports health and promotes wellbeing.

THE STRUCTURE

THE STRUCTURE
01 | FIRST JUTE STYLE
The first jute layer forms the basis of our footbed. It contributes to the stabilization of the natural cork-latex core.
02 | CORK LATEX BED
The cork latex bedding is the heart of all BIRKENSTOCK shoes. The cushioning and highly flexible cork-latex core supports and relieves the foot. The natural materials have a heat and cold-insulating effect and ensure a good foot climate.
03 | SECOND JUTE STYLE
The second jute layer is placed around the edge of the bedding. This increases the flexibility of the bedding and contributes significantly to longevity. This layer of dense, absorbent jute fabric promotes moisture regulation.
04 | SUEDE COVER
The suede cover is moisture absorbing. This natural quality of the high-quality leather covers contributes to a pleasant foot climate.
