BIRKENSTOCK uses high-quality leathers, carefully selected textiles as well as synthetic and blended fabrics to make sandals and shoes. All materials are produced responsibly and constantly checked for skin compatibility.
LEATHER
Leather is one of the most durable natural materials in traditional shoe manufacturing. BIRKENSTOCK uses very high quality, extra thick, uncleaved leather.

NATURAL LEATHER
For sandals and shoes made of untreated natural leather, particularly beautiful pieces of leather with a thickness of 2.8 to 3.2 millimeters are selected.
OILED LEATHER
The special form of fatty leather is obtained from specialized tanneries. Depending on the desired effect, a fatty, oily or waxy surface coating is applied to the leather.
NUBUCK
Nubuck leather belongs to the Rauledern and is by nature several millimeters strong. It has a smooth surface without graining.
PATENT LEATHER
The specially finished smooth leather combines the natural leather with a foil coating and is used for particularly fashionable designs.
SYNTHETIC MATERIAL
The skin-friendly and durable synthetic material Birko-Flor® is used in various designs for the production of fashionable sandals and shoes.
BIRKO-FLOR ®
Birko-Flor® is a skin-friendly, tear-resistant and easy-care synthetic material that is used exclusively by BIRKENSTOCK.
BIRKO-FLOR® NUBUCK
Birko-Flor® Nubuck manages to almost perfectly replicate the look and feel of authentic nubuck leather.
BIRKO-FLOR® PATENT
Brilliant, gaudy and high-quality, the moisture-repellent Birko-Flor® has a lacquer look. There are no limits in the color selection.
TEXTILE MATERIALS
BIRKENSTOCK also uses long-lasting and skin-friendly textile materials for the production of sandals and shoes.
LINEN / CANVAS
Linen is one of the most robust textile types traditionally used for heavily used clothing.
MICROFIBER (VEGAN)
The vegan microfiber fabric is a skin-friendly material that is soft yet tear-resistant.
WOOL FELT
Brilliant, gaudy and high-quality, the moisture-repellent Birko-Flor® has a lacquer look. There are no limits in the color selection.
